Luma, Mokok Noi village, Phongsaly Province
Head scarf, beaded hair ornament, bead necklaces, metal choker, apron, shirt, skirt, leggings.
The Luma are a small sub-group living in Samphan, Meuangh Khua and Meuang Mai districts of Phongsaly Province. This clothing has been hand sewn and embroidered using factory-made yarn and cloth.
The hair ornament includes original glass beads, which in recent times have been supplanted by plastic. Women tie flowers and ammulets to the end of their head scarf to ward off bad spirits.
